Lahore: Renowned Pakistani designer and actor HSY has come forward in support of his longtime friend Fawad Khan, who is currently facing public criticism. The backlash began after Fawad promoted his Indian film Abir Gulaal, which was later shelved following the Pahalgam attacks.
Fawad, known for avoiding political commentary, condemned the attacks but maintained a neutral tone in his public response. His measured statement led to even more criticism in Pakistan, where fans expected a more outspoken stance in favor of the country.
Speaking to journalist Ambreen Fatima, HSY defended Fawad, calling him a true patriot. He said that while no one can fully understand what’s in another person’s heart, he knows how deeply Fawad loves Pakistan.
HSY added that he understands why people are upset, especially amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. He acknowledged that celebrities often carry the expectations of their fans, who want them to reflect the nation’s sentiments during difficult times.
However, he emphasized that he couldn’t comment whether Fawad was under external pressure. He concluded by saying that while criticism is valid, so is knowing the person behind the fame, and Fawad, to him, remains a patriotic and sincere individual.
